It was a battle of the tech titans last week with Apple announcing their latest iPad tablets, OS X Yosemite and iOS 8.1 coming tonight. Google fittingly found themselves announcing their latest devices and Android OS 5.0 Lollipop, offering a total revamp on the user interface according to their Material Design guidelines.

Android 5.0 Lollipop also improves in continuity functions allowing tasks from one device to be pick up from where it was left off on another. Sounds familiar? It is since Apple’s has a similar feature introduced in their latest smartphone and Mac operating systems. Improvements in notifications and lockscreen allow more control who and what is more important. Battery power saving and charging time and completion estimation is available in the new Lollipop OS as well, plus many more other features and changes.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available for download sometime in November 2014, after Nexus 6 and 9 starts shipping. If you own a Nexus 4 and 5 smartphone, and/or Nexus 7 and 10 tablet, good news as you will be able to update them to Lollipop once it available.

Nexus 9 is the latest Google tablet made by HTC. The 8.9″ 2K resolution display device comes with a Nvidia Tegra K1 2.3GHz 64-bit processor, 2GB of memory, an 8MP rear camera, 802.11ac MIMO WiFi & LTE 4G support and comes in 16GB and 32GB storage options. The new tablet will also come with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed and is available for pre-order on Amazon now and will be available for free shipping to Singapore addresses. Expected shipping date will be on 3 November 2014.

Pre-Order Now

You might want to know that there are no storage expansion slots on the new Nexus 9 tablet which might be a bit lacking for folks who prefer to load lots of movies and song in the device instead of streaming, especially now that data plans are pretty much limited to a few gigabytes.

Google Nexus 6 is the new smartphone announced at the same week and it’s huge. Spotting a 6″ QHD 2K resolution display, it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 2.7GHz processor and a Andreno 420 graphics processor. At the back of the new Nexus 6 is a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization, a 2MP on the front. Same as the Nexus 9 tablet, Google new smartphone will also come with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed.

Nexus 6 will only be available for pre-order in the states late October 2014, so it might take a while before it surfaces in Singapore which should be before 2015 arrives.

Google has always been trying capture the TV market for a while now and here comes Nexus Player, a Android powered TV and gaming console set to compete with Apple TV and OUYA. Powered with a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom chip, 802.11ac (MIMO) wireless, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and HDMI output, a bunch of popular apps such as Netfix, TED, Youtube and Pandora have already been developed to work with Nexus Player out of the box.

Unfortunately the Nexus Player is still awaiting FCC certification in the states before it goes up on sale and there are no news if it will be released worldwide.
