Amazon Dash Button isn’t an April Fools’ joke and it’s a great idea

When new products and services get released so close to the first day of April, we become skeptical and start to scrutinize every one of them wondering if it’s any real. Amazon cheekily introduces a new product during this period, or service depending on how you look at it, and it’s called the Dash Button.

Turns out it isn’t a joke and it’s actually a good idea. It works on the idea of replenishment, when you realise you are running out of e.g. toiletries, coffee or printer ink, simply press the button and the respective supplies will be on the way to your doorstep. And if someone in the house presses it 10 times, you won’t get 10 orders, only one if there’s already an order on its way.

Amazon has partnered with hundreds of brands and products to bring this service to homes, and although and obviously it won’t be available here in Singapore, we can’t help but wonder if major grocery retailers (*nudges* Fairprice and Redmart) will pick up the idea.
