One would find it strange that with all the emphasis placed on education, numerous schools and more than a hundred thousand residents later, there’s still no sight of a public library in Punggol.

According to the Punggol Masterplan, the public library along with a town hub and regional sports centre will only be ready in four years time. That’s when Punggol’s MP, Ms Sun Xueling propose to build a temporary library in the area after repeated requests from the parents in the area.

The temporary library called Punggol West Container Library is made up of two containers situated near block 211 Punggol field. It consists over 3,000 books, mostly for teens and children. The library is air-conditioned and comes equipped with children tables and chairs, and a reading corner in one of the containers.

However, the temporary library runs independently which means books borrowed from libraries in other neighbourhoods cannot be returned here.

The library opening hours are from 2pm to 9pm on weekdays and from 10am to 6pm on weekends. It is closed on eves of and public holidays.
