KFC recipe is one of the most guarded secrets on earth; it is said that not even the CEO has access to it. You probably have tried to decipher its signature fried chicken’s ingredients through taste, but now you don’t have to.

Turns out the secret recipe is being leaked by Colonel Sander’s very own nephew, according to a report by Chicago Tribune. Inside a family scrapbook the 67-year-old Joe Ledington owns, apart from containing photos of the family and memory of his uncle (Colonel Sanders), is a piece of handwritten note which wrote eleven key spices.

According to Joe Ledington, he doesn’t recall who had written the note but says that it is the original 11 herbs and spices that were supposed to be kept a secret. He goes on to claim its authenticity because as a boy, he had help blend those herbs and spices in his uncle’s garage.

Nobody knows if the recipe is the real thing and Yum Brands (who owns KFC) calls it a fake, for obvious reasons. A few sites, including Chicago Tribune, had gone on to try out the recipe, and the results were just as finger-licking good.

Here are the original list of eleven herbs and spices if you wish to recreate the colonel’s fried chicken at home:

11 Spices – Mix With 2 Cups White Fl.

  1. 2/3 Ts Salt
  2. 1/2 Ts Thyme

  10. 1 Ts Ground Ginger

*Ts = tablespoon, Origino (typo error) is Oregano.

Here’s a video from Business Insider with some clear instructions, although you might want to turn down the heat on the oil (to prevent charring) as suggested by some viewers.
