New flagship smartphone

New Mi Mix 2S unveiled in Shanghai, China this week

If you have been following closely to Xiaomi smartphone developments, you will know the new Mi MIX 2S is a smartphone its competitors should be watching closely.

Despite little changes to the looks, the Mi MIX 2S is one of the few phones today that comes with the latest Snapdragon 845 processor. Other notable features include wireless charging, huge 6-inch full HD+ IPS display, USB-C port, NFC support, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage.

Perhaps the biggest improvement that fans have been wanting that is on the Mi MIX 2S is its camera. It has a dual 12-megapixel camera (wide-angle and telephoto lens) on Sony’s IMX363 sensor with large 1.4ɥm pixels and bright f/1.8 aperture. The new camera is tested on DXOMark, an independent camera and lens measurement firm, and it is ranked at the top with the iPhone X at a score of 97.

The Mi MIX 2S camera also comes with Dual Pixel technology that promises faster autofocusing and stacks photos to reduce noise in the photos. Below are sample photos provided by Xiaomi, one showing the dynamic range and the other low-light performance.

Mi MIX 2S is set to go on sale in China on 3 April with prices starting from ¥3,299 (S$687) for the 6GB + 64GB variant and up to ¥3,999 (S$833) for the 8GB + 256GB.

Xiaomi says the phone supports up to 226 frequency bands globally. It is, however, unclear if Mi Singapore will bring in the new phone.
