Edgeless displays are nothing new, particularly in China but Xiaomi is probably the first smartphone maker in the world to attempt making one with a display that runs to the top edge.
Originally a concept, the futuristic-looking Mi MIX today became a real product. The phone size is similar to the iPhone 7 Plus but with the edgeless display, Mi MIX’s screen area gets a bump to a panoramic 6.4 inches, covering over 91% of the phone’s face.
In case you are wondering, there’s actually a front camera – Xiaomi managed to create a front camera half the size of a standard one but it is located on the lower right of the screen. The missing earpiece speaker has also been replaced with a ceramic acoustic driver that deliver sound waves from behind the display.

You won’t find glass or metal on the outside, Mi MIX is covered with a ceramic frame right down to its back and side buttons.
Mi MIX features the latest hardware on the inside as well – Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB memory, 128GB storage and a 16-megapixel rear camera. There’s a variant model that comes with 18-karat gold rims around the camera and fingerprint sensor, 6GB of memory and 256GB of storage.
Price starts at ¥3,499 (~S$719) for Mi MIX and ¥3,999 (~S$822) for the Mi MIX 18K model.
