In a surprising (although not unexpected) announcement from ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator in Singapore will be offering fixed flat rates on rides that are booked through the mobile app starting today.
According to the company, there will be no hidden fees, no surge pricing or admin fee when using cashless payments. The move is most likely a bid to attract more taxi bookings digitally to level the competition with ride-booking mobile apps such as Grab and Uber.

This means travel delays due to i.e. traffic jams will not result in higher fares. The new flat rate, however, will not cover ERP charges which will still be levied as incurred. There will also be additional $5 charges for additional en-route or changes to a further destination ($5 per 5km mileage).
Users are encouraged to update to the latest version of the mobile app to enjoy the flat-fare scheme.
