Nic & Tom Eatery in Serangoon famous for Cheese Beehoon Soup & Yong Tau Foo Dishes closing down in June

Nic & Tom Eatery will be closing in a month’s time due to rental issues

Founded by the second generation of the famous Bai Nian Niang Dou Foo, Nic & Tom Eatery has been struggling for the past 3 years. Like many food retailers, the Covid pandemic has not been kind to them too.

Closing down in June

Which is why they have made a difficult decision to close the shop in Serangoon Gardens despite all efforts to attract more customers after offering discounts to neighbouring homes and even free bowls at one point.

According to the owners, they will be closing sometime this June after being unable to secure a new contract with the landlord.

Creamy Cheese Beehoon Dishes

The place is known for its creamy Cheese Beehoon Soup dishes, prepared from scratch the night before.

Their signature dishes include:

The place has over 500 reviews from patrons with some calling their Cheese Beehoon dishes akin to crab beehoon as well as commending the variety of dishes available.

Besides signature Cheese Beehoon, Nic & Tom also serves traditional Hakka Yong Tau Foo as well as sides inspired by local favourites including Pig Trotter, Meat Cake, Pig Intestine, Chicken Skin and more.

A pity all these will be going away soon.

Here’s what the founders’ Nic and Tom have to say:

*Our Last Dance*

3 years gone by just like that. We still remember the night before our grand opening day on 27 August 2019. We were preparing for the next day till 5am, cleaning chicken skins by hand, cooking pig trotters and preparing all the necessary ingredients expecting a big crowd the next day. However like every other new F&B establishments the crowd only lasted for 3 days. It was a struggle everyday. We were up at 6am preparing for opening as we weren’t experienced enough to prepare efficiently at the beginning. We opened at 10.30am but we were sitting in till late afternoon waiting for our first customer of the day to patronize us. The business was so bad, we were helpless and depressed. We started giving 50% discount coupons door to door to the neighboring homes but it didn’t work. We started giving away hundreds of free bowls of our main dishes daily and it didn’t work too. Online and offline nothing seems to be working. Nobody was giving us any attention. It was as though we were destined to fail right from the start. However we didn’t give up and we still continued to show up daily looking forward to serve anyone that would give us a chance and try our food. We still remember for the first time we had a small crowd, it was obvious to us as there was a significant difference in the number of people and we thought to ourselves was it our lucky day today?

However, they have also mentioned there’s a chance Nic & Tom Eatery will be back if they ever found another place to rent.

Last chance to support them before they close for good.
