Earlier this week, the Singapore government announced a new coin to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
LKY100 Coin
The new gold-coloured coin, named LKY100, is minted in aluminium bronze and pays tribute to his strategic vision, boldness and indomitable spirit that transformed Singapore.
Measuring 30mm in diameter, the coin is designed by local artist Mr Weng Ziyan.
The front of the coin features the Singapore Coat of Arms as well as a dual latent image of Mr Lee’s birth year 1923 viewed from one angle, and his 100th birth anniversary 2023 viewed from another.
Open for application
The public can now apply to purchase the new commemorative coin through this gov.sg online form from now till 9 June, although it is only available for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents only.
The coin will be available for collection at selected bank branches (full list here) islandwide from September onwards later this year. Each applicant can apply for up to 5 coins and in the event of high demand, the final allocation will be determined by electronic allocation but each applicant will be assured of at least one coin.
