Big But Nothing New Really…
So the GDS Team was down at SITEX 2010 held in Singapore Expo 4-6. Interestingly we were at Suntec Convention hall for lunch earlier yesterday and a friendly security guard told us quite a few peeps thought SITEX was held there, no surprise though and we did see a few folks wandering around.
We were at Expo at around 5pm and there’s already a huge crowd making their way into the halls, a common scene in IT events like these. Most of the big brands were there as usual: Nikon, Canon, Sony and Olympus for cameras, Microsoft had like a dozen Kinect stations for gamers to try out, Toshiba introducing their dual screen laptop Libretto W100 (uncanny resemblance of a bigger Nintendo DS) and Android tablet Folio 100. A couple e-ink ebook readers were also on sale but their features were dull and unreliable in comparison to the popular Amazon Kindle. The new Nikon D7000 (D90 replacement) and D3100 (D3000 replacement) were also spotted at the Nikon booth, the new Olympus E-5 as well. If you are looking for LED TV deals, this event is nothing short of it with Harvey Norman, Courts and Gain City pitching their hourly TV deals to eager buyers. It was rather disappointing that they don’t put up their prices and all we see are reduced-price-or-ask-us-now tags hanging around their big screens.
While browsing around for good deals we caught a few products which claim to be on sale but were seemingly more expensive than SLS or Funan shop prices. When asked, some just refuse to comment while others claim shops in SLS are selling counterfeit or imitations and warning us against shopping there. Truth to be told, we were skeptical about the information parse to consumers with these hard sell tactics so if you are looking to purchase specific products, duly do your research before heading down.
