eBay isn’t having a good week after reports of their user database containing encrypted passwords compromised by a cyberattack. Interestingly eBay hasn’t emailed their users regarding this attack but only showing logged-in users a password reset notification banner on the home page.
Whether eBay is playing down the attack or perhaps still investigating the situation, we strongly advise that you change not just your eBay password, but that same password you have used on different sites and accounts as well.
And here’s the official cyberattack announcement page you won’t find anywhere until you have logged-in.
Update 26th May 2014: eBay has updated their site to include password update notification without logging in, and has sent an email update explaining the attack and recommended measures.
