GoPro and its investors should be worried, especially now after disclosing to focus on the China market this year. Xiaomi just dropped the bomb yesterday announcing their very own camera call Yi Action Camera, the Yi in Chinese means ants which we are guessing the name refers to the capability of ants notwithstanding its small sizes.
The Yi Action Camera price at just ¥399 (est~ S$86.82) features a 16 megapixel camera capable of 1080p video at 60fps, better than GoPro HERO entry-level model which only shoots 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps. Yet despite Yi’s affordable pricing, it is powered by a high-quality Sony Exmor CMOS sensor and offers up to 64GB of microSD storage, twice of GoPro HERO’s.
Expectedly, Xiaomi new action camera available in metro white or forest green colours has already sold out on launch, though there isn’t any news on when it will arrive here in Singapore.
We have reached out to Mi Singapore for comments and will update when we have any news from them. In the meantime, you can view video/photo samples from their official website (Chinese).
