Very soon, commuters booking a taxi on Grab app will be looking at surge pricing with Trans-Cab and Premier Taxi.
According to a Straits Times report, the two taxi operators have submitted their plans to Public Transport Council (PTC). Prime Taxi is said to be considering making the change as well. ComfortDelGro and SMRT Taxis have yet to indicate any interest in joining the same initiative.
The surge pricing only applies to bookings on ride-hailing mobile app Grab and does not affect flag down rides. While the fares will be higher during high demand, it will also mean lower fares during off-peak hours.
The move towards dynamic pricing is a Grab initiative and a new format that will somewhat level the playing field between private hires and taxis.
