Apple announced their new Arm-based M1 chip for Macs

Apple has finally unveiled its own processor today, calling it the Apple M1 chip.

New Macs

The new M1 chip is Apple’s first-ever Arm-based processor that’s built for use in Macs, manufactured using a 5-nanometer process. It will be used in the new MacBook Air, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro.

Combined with the upcoming macOS Big Sur, the new processor is so heat and power-efficient there’s no cooling required for the MacBook Air, which also means complete silence when using the new laptop.

Besides being faster, the new chip also delivers up to 20 hours of battery life on the new MacBook Pro, the longest-ever battery life in a Mac.

The new Mac Mini is also more affordable now, starting at just S$979 which comes with 8GB memory and 256GB SSD storage.

Here’s Apple event announcing the new M1 chip and devices in 10 minutes.
