Fort Canning Park has a new Heritage Gallery and Spice Garden with over 180 varieties of plants

New places to explore

There are a couple of new family-friendly places to explore in Fort Canning Park now.

Heritage Gallery & Spice Garden

NParks has just announced new additions to Fort Canning Park and is now home to a new Heritage Gallery and enhanced Spice Garden.

These new spaces offer visitors a peek into the history of Fort Canning Hill as well as bringing us closer to the greenery in our city.

Fort Canning Heritage Gallery

The new Heritage Gallery is located at Fort Canning Centre, tracing more than 700 years of history across 5 zones.

Inside the gallery, visitors will be able to view archaeological artefacts excavated from Fort Canning Park itself such as a Chinese porcelain compass likely used for geomancy, and fragments of porcelain pillow, both from the 14th century.

Admission to the Heritage Gallery is free for all. It opens from 10am to 6pm daily, closed on the last Monday of the month for maintenance.

Enhanced Spice Garden

The Spice Garden was originally pedestrianised in 2019 but has since been enhanced to include more plant varieties (180 now), making it Singapore’s most diverse spice garden.

Interactive panels and artwork are lined up in the former pedestrian ramp, testing your knowledge on tools used to harvest and prepare spices.

Parents can bring along their little ones to learn more about spices and the role that the spice trade played in the history of Singapore while exploring the rest of Fort Canning Park.

New Book Launch

History buffs will be glad to know there’s a new book titled ‘Fort Canning Park: Heritage & Gardens‘, a guidebook that offer insights to the rich history of the park and the design concept of the 9 historical gardens.

Grab a copy when you’re there.
