Sony’s new PlayStation (PS5) Slim Digital Edition has the option to add Blu-ray Disc Drive sold separately

Coming this holiday season

The new Sony PS5 Slim models will likely be available in S’pore in the coming months

The wait is over if you’ve been holding out for Sony’s new slimmer PlayStation 5.

More Desk Space

Just in time for the holiday season, the much-anticipated PS5 Slim models have just made the news, offering the same technology features packed into a smaller form factor. That’s more than a 30% reduction in volume and weighs as much as 24% less compared to previous models.

Additionally, they also come with a 1TB SSD internal storage by default.

Other cosmetic changes on the exterior include the new four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte.

Perhaps the most awaited feature that fans have been waiting for will be the optional Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive accessory that will be available for the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, which now offers the flexibility for gamers to detach the drive when not in use.

The drive will be sold separately at US$79.99 (~S$110) in the U.S.; prices for Singapore are not disclosed at the time of this writing.

Sony says the new PS5 Slim models will be available starting in November this year in the U.S. and will roll out globally in the following months. The newer slim models will become the only model available once the current PS5 model sells out.

Sony Singapore is still selling the current (larger) models at S$669 for the Digital and S$799 for the Disc Edition on the official store online. There has been no announcement on the slim models from them yet.
