As Singapore gears up for the highly anticipated 2024 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has issued a timely reminder regarding the traffic arrangements for the event.
The iconic Marina Bay Street Circuit, which will host the night race from 20th to 22nd September 2024, promises to deliver high-octane entertainment, but it also requires significant changes to the city’s traffic flow.
To ensure smooth movement for residents and visitors alike, a series of road closures and diversions have been implemented, with the LTA working closely with the Singapore Grand Prix organisers. From 13th September to 24th September 2024, certain roads in the Marina Centre and Padang areas will either be fully or partially closed. The heaviest impact on traffic will occur during the race weekend itself, from Friday to Sunday.
Key Roads Affected
Notable road closures include stretches of Republic Boulevard, Raffles Boulevard, Esplanade Drive, Nicoll Highway, and Bayfront Avenue. Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas and plan their journeys ahead. For those who need to access the vicinity, designated access points are available for affected residents, businesses, and hotel guests, though these will operate under specific timings.

Alternative Transport Options
The LTA has strongly advised the public to make use of Singapore’s robust public transportation network during the event. MRT services will run late into the night, with extended operating hours for the Circle Line, North-South Line, East-West Line, and Downtown Line to accommodate racegoers. Selected bus services will also operate for longer hours to ensure connectivity between different parts of the island.
Cycling is another viable alternative, with dedicated bicycle parking facilities provided around the Marina Bay area. However, cyclists should note that some shared paths and cycling routes will be temporarily rerouted due to the road closures.
Access for Businesses and Residents
While the race will draw large crowds and international visitors, the LTA has ensured that access to residential buildings, businesses, and hotels in the affected areas will remain available, though some restrictions will apply. Only authorised vehicles with valid entry passes will be permitted in the restricted zones, and all deliveries must be completed by specified times.
Once the race concludes on 22nd September, road reinstatement works will commence immediately to return the Marina Bay area to its regular state. The LTA has committed to reopening all affected roads progressively by 5:30 a.m. on 24th September, ensuring minimal disruption to daily routines.
