Gwen’s Frozen brings all-American diner vibes to Joo Chiat
Stepping into Gwen’s Frozen feels like walking into a nostalgic 1950s American malt shop—complete with checkered floors, hand-drawn menu boards, and a baby pink rotary phone.
From Hollywood Sets to Ice Cream Scoops
But this charming space in Joo Chiat holds more than just aesthetics—it’s a heartfelt tribute from founder Erin Nash to his daughter Gwen and a slice of Americana lovingly recreated in Singapore.
A Hollywood Dad’s Sweet Pivot
Erin Nash, once a renowned visual effects supervisor who worked on major hits like Game of Thrones and Westworld, traded film sets for a flat-top griddle. When fatherhood came knocking, Erin left the US film industry behind to raise his daughter and build something meaningful—an experience he could share with her while living in Singapore.
Classic Short-Order Staples, Reimagined
Gwen’s Frozen isn’t your average American eatery. It’s a throwback to the Tri-State griddle joints Erin grew up loving, serving from-scratch burgers, grilled cheese, and cheesesteaks.
The New York Cheeseburger ($15) uses a custom beef blend ground in-house daily, cooked with paper-thin onions and no gimmicky sauces—just classic American cheese and a whisper of mayo.
Their Philly Cheesesteak ($16) features shaved ribeye grilled with onions and cheese, stuffed into a soft roll that’s as close to a Philadelphia icon as you’ll find in the tropics.
And for pure comfort? The Classic Grilled Cheese ($8.50) is golden, gooey, and pairs perfectly with a humble bowl of Tomato Soup ($5.50).
Frozen Custards: Thick Enough to Flip
The real showstopper is the frozen dessert lineup. Gwen’s frozen custards are dense, egg-yolk rich, and thick enough to flip upside down—a nod to the iconic “concrete” shakes of the Midwest. Every batch is made fresh in-house with zero preservatives.
Standouts include:
- Cyclone ($12.50): A house-made custard blitzed with mix-ins like Oreos or pretzels—so thick, spoons stand upright (and upside down!).
- Gelati (+$3.50): A parfait of silky custard and refreshing Philadelphia Ice (water ice), with flavors like mango, strawberry, and lemonade.
- Milkshakes ($12.50) and Root Beer Floats ($7.50): All made with the same luscious custard base for extra creaminess.

Everything at Gwen’s is made fresh daily—from hand-cut Cottage Fries ($7) to fruit-packed ices. The Philadelphia-style water ices are a Singapore-first, offering a smooth, slushie-like texture without any artificial aftertaste.
A Grand Opening with a Sweet Deal
To celebrate their opening, Gwen’s Frozen is offering:
- Buy-One-Get-One Free on all sizes of Philadelphia ices until 31 May 2025
- Free fries and medium ices with every main ordered during the grand opening weekend, 25–27 April 2025 (Fri–Sun)
More Than Just a Dessert Shop
Gwen’s Frozen isn’t a franchise or a trend. It’s one father’s way of preserving memories, creating new ones, and sharing the joy of honest American comfort food with his daughter—and now, with all of Singapore.
