Biking enthusiasts looking for a new helmet should really check out Lumos, a next-generation water-resistant bicycle helmet that lights up to keep you safe on the roads.

Lumos isn’t just an ordinary helmet that comes fitted with lightings, it’s actually smart enough to sense when you are stopping through an integrated accelerometer and automatically lights up all the LEDs at the back of the helmet to alert road users behind. The helmet is also connected to a remote which you can fit on your bike for signalling left and right, a useful feature especially at night when other vehicles have difficulty noticing your hands.

After use, simply recharge the Lumos helmet’s battery via a micro-USB port provided. A 30-minute charge on the Lumos will last you about a week of usage.

With just a few days left in this Kickstarter project, Lumos has gotten a lot of attention from bike enthusiasts worldwide with more than 4,700 backers pledging. The only letdown, if any, is perhaps its shipping date. Priced at a reasonable US$99 (US$114 after shipping fees included), Lumos will only ship in June next year. This means you have to stick with your current helmet in the meantime plus the possibility of a better bike helmet surfacing in the market by then.
