Say goodbye to traffic jams — here’s what the RTS Link train looks like inside and out
The highly anticipated Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has hit a new milestone.
The very first RTS Link train was officially unveiled at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC), marking a major step forward in the cross-border rail project expected to begin service by December 2026.
A Train Built for the Future
This is the first of eight four-car trains that will eventually serve the RTS Link, each designed to carry over 600 passengers.
Fully automated and driverless, the trains bring modern rapid transit features to the cross-border route, combining high capacity with cutting-edge operational efficiency.
The design of the train proudly reflects a shared identity — drawing from the national colours of Malaysia, Johor, and Singapore — and aims to symbolise the close ties and cooperation between both countries.
Ready for Testing at SRTC
Before it welcomes commuters, the train will go through rigorous testing at the SRTC, followed by further system integration trials along the RTS Link tracks. These tests will cover everything from signalling to communication and control systems, ensuring the train is fully prepared for safe and efficient daily operations.
System Progress Crosses 50% Completion
Construction of the RTS Link system is moving steadily ahead. More than half of the trackwork and supporting systems are already completed, including the crucial components needed for operations. Once fully operational, the line will have the capacity to move up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, significantly reducing congestion at the Causeway.
A Game Changer for Cross-Border Travel
Once launched, the RTS Link will transform travel between Johor Bahru and Woodlands North, offering commuters a reliable, high-frequency alternative to the often-congested land routes. With sleek interiors, accessible features like foldable seats, digital passenger information displays, and a bright, modern design, the new trains reflect a focus on both functionality and passenger comfort.
As excitement builds, the arrival of the first train is not just a symbol of progress — it’s a glimpse into the future of cross-border transport between Singapore and Malaysia.
