Apple iPhone 8 to be announced on September 12. Here’s what we know so far

American technology company Apple is set to reveal its latest flagship smartphone on 12 September at 10am. The keynote event, held at Steve Jobs Theatre (named after the late co-founder) for the first time.

The event will be streamed live on Apple’s website and can only be view on the Safari or Microsoft Edge browser or Apple devices. In Singapore, viewers can tune in to the event page at 1am on Wednesday, 13 September.

The iPhone 8 will also mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and Apple is expected to launch something major to celebrate the event.

Expected features of the iPhone 8 from the rumour mill include:

  • Radical new design with edge-to-edge display
  • 5.8-inch display, of which 5.15 inches will be usable. The rest will be a virtual space that will replace the home button and will feature gesture controls.
  • Faster A11 processor
  • Glass body (similar to iPhone 4)
  • Facial recognition replacing Touch ID
  • One OLED display premium model
  • Wireless charging
  • Removal of Home button
  • Vertical rear cameras
