Xiaomi’s new Pocophone F1

Haven’t heard of the Pocophone F1? Neither have we.

A quick search tells us that Pocophone or POCO is a new sub-brand under Xiaomi that aims to target customers on a global scale. While there are few obstacles to getting the latest Xiaomi phones from export sellers or online marketplaces, their phones still primarily target and are customized for the Chinese market.

Pocophone is changing that and saying their first flagship phone is impressive is an understatement. Here’s why – Inside the F1, the phone is powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 processor, a whopping 6GB RAM and up to 256GB storage, has a 4,000mAh battery, USB-C quick charging port and a huge 6.18-inch FHD IPS display. It also has a 20-megapixel selfie camera and a 12-megapixel (Sony) and 5-megapixel (Samsung) at the rear.

On the software side of things, the Pocophone F1 will come with MIUI 9.6 (based on Android Oreo). An update to Android Pie will come later in the 4th quarter.

That’s some powerful specs packed into the phone but what about its price? It will retail at just S$449, almost S$200 lower than the OnePlus 6 with similar specs.

Pocophones will also be released much faster globally than Mi smartphones. Mi Singapore just announced the Pocophone F1 (6GB + 64GB variant) will be available at all authorized Mi Stores, Mi Zones, and Mi Store Lazada starting this Thursday, 30 August.

You've watched the launch in India and Jakarta, and you've asked when will it be here… so the #MasterOfSpeed is coming…
