Heads up, oysters and seafood lovers – here’s a Japanese bento you can find in Don Don Donki stores that are totally worth it.
Grilled Oyster Bento
For those who frequent the bento and hot food counter in Don Don Donki stores, you probably have seen the Grilled Oyster Bento up for grabs but according to fans, it usually gets snapped up pretty quickly.
Facebook netizen Pearlyn Chan who uploaded the photo of the oyster-loaded bento mentions there’s always very few or only one left every time she visits.
As the name suggests, the bento consists of only two ingredients – rice and oysters.
Another fan commented with another photo that has a label highlighting that the oysters are in fact imported from Hiroshima, Japan. This makes perfect sense since the city is close to the sea naturally blessed with calm tidal currents, making it the perfect farming environment for oysters.
The label also mentions aburi and terimayo which in Japanese refers to flame-grilled and a combination of teriyaki and mayo sauces respectively.
Don Don Donki fans have mentioned spotting them in HarbourFront Centre and Northpoint City, although some have claimed they have never seen it before which likely means the elusive bento dish might not be available at all stores. Some have also suggested looking at the section with chiller fridges.
Slurp.
It is priced around $15 per bento, which can be pricey (or not) depending on how deep your pockets are.
