New SpaceOut website offers insights on crowd levels from malls in S’pore

Planning to go for a grocery run but not sure if there will be a long queue to enter the mall? Now you can check how crowded a mall is via an online website called SpaceOut by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

Not Crowded or Max Capacity

The new SpaceOut website comes just in time for the new Covid measurements which lets visitors search for malls they are visiting and how crowded they are in almost real-time.

Visitors can also find out the recent crowd trends in an easy-to-read chart to avoid large crowds or when the mall is at maximum capacity.

Here’s an example of the crowds on a daily basis at West Mall.

There’s also a Nearby Options tab for users to find out the crowd levels at malls in the vicinity.

We did a comparison with Google search of the mall and found the crowd result to be quite different, despite Google stating it as a ‘live’ measurement.

You might want to compare both of the measurements to get a better idea, although we believe SpaceOut offers better accuracy due to the methods they collect the crowd data from malls.

You can find out more about how SpaceOut works here (somewhat technical).
